Christmas Cake Mix Cookies

Instructions: How to Make Cake Mix Cookies

Step 1: Prep and Preheat

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. This prevents sticking and helps the cookies bake evenly.

Step 2: Mix the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry cake mix, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract (if using).

⚠️ Important Note: Do not follow the instructions on the back of the cake mix box. You are using the dry mix as the base for the cookie dough.

  2. Mix until a thick, uniform dough forms. It will be much thicker than cake batter. A spatula, hand mixer, or stand mixer on low speed all work well.

  3. Gently fold in your chosen Christmas mix-ins (e.g., M&M's, white chocolate chips).

Step 3: Scoop and Bake

  1. Using a cookie scoop or a rounded tablespoon, scoop the dough and roll it into 1-inch balls.

Tip: If the dough feels sticky, refrigerate it for 15-20 minutes to make it easier to handle.

  2. Place the cookie dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each.

  3. (Optional) Press a few extra M&M's or sprinkles onto the top of each dough ball for a prettier, more festive finish.

  4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just set and the tops look slightly cracked but not browned. The centers should still look very soft.

Step 4: Cool and Serve

  1. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2–3 minutes. This allows them to finish setting up and prevents them from breaking.

  2. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

  3. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
