🥣 Step-by-Step Instructions
This recipe is incredibly simple, requiring just a few minutes of prep!
Step 1: Combine All Ingredients
-
Pour the milk, heavy whipping cream, and sweetened condensed milk into the basin of your slow cooker.
-
Add the chocolate chips, vanilla extract, cocoa powder (if using), and salt (if using).
-
Use a whisk to mix everything together until the liquids are generally combined and the chocolate chips are coated. Don't worry if the cocoa powder is a little clumpy—it will smooth out as it heats.
Step 2: Slow Cook
-
Cover the slow cooker and set it to the LOW heat setting.
-
Cook for 2 to 3 hours.
Step 3: Whisk and Serve
-
During the last hour of cooking, or once the mixture is hot, lift the lid and whisk the hot chocolate vigorously. This is key to ensuring the chocolate chips are fully melted and the cocoa powder/condensed milk is smoothly incorporated. If you see any unmelted chocolate clinging to the bottom or sides, scrape and whisk until smooth.
-
Once the hot chocolate is creamy, hot, and completely smooth, switch the slow cooker setting to KEEP WARM.
Step 4: Garnish and Enjoy!
-
Ladle the hot chocolate into mugs.
-
Set up a topping bar for guests to customize their perfect cup!
