1. White Trash Snack Mix (White Chocolate Trail Mix)
A classic salty-sweet mashup featuring a variety of crunchy ingredients coated in creamy white chocolate. It's often called "White Trash" because it uses up a variety of pantry odds and ends!
🛒 Ingredients
-
4 cups Rice or Corn Chex cereal
-
2 cups plain Cheerios cereal
-
2 cups mini pretzels
-
1 cup lightly salted peanuts
-
1 cup M&M's candies (use seasonal colors for holidays!)
-
16 oz white almond bark or white melting wafers (or high-quality white chocolate chips)
👩🍳 Instructions
-
Prepare the Base: In a large bowl, combine the Chex cereal, Cheerios, mini pretzels, peanuts, and M&M's candies. Toss gently to mix.
-
Melt the Coating: Place the almond bark or white melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium power (50-70%) for 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each interval, until completely melted and smooth. Tip: Almond bark/wafers melt more smoothly than white chocolate chips. If using chips, you may need to add 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening or oil for a better coating consistency.
-
Combine and Coat: Pour the melted white coating over the cereal mixture. Use a rubber spatula to gently fold and stir until all the ingredients are evenly coated. Work quickly, as the white chocolate sets fast.
-
Set: Spread the mixture in a thin, even layer onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.
-
Cool and Serve: Let the mix cool and set completely at room temperature (about 45–60 minutes) or speed up the process by placing it in the refrigerator (about 10-15 minutes). Once set, break the mixture into smaller clusters.
-
Store: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
